ABOUT
Fred Mack is a musically diverse saxophone player from Edmonton, Alberta. He completed a music degree from MacEwan University which included a semester of studies in Finland. He has also spent time as a cruise ship musician aboard the Cunard Queen Elizabeth and can often be seen playing as sideman or band leader.
Fred’s music showcases his melodic improvisational style, memorable song writing, and global influences. In 2015, he won “Outstanding Jazz Band Musician” at MacEwan University. His recording on Good Nature’s “Revolutionary People” has gotten radio play across Canada, and the album “Waves” has reached over 50 000 streams worldwide. His band Euphoria has recently completed their first tour to sold-out audiences across Canada. He has had the honour of performing alongside Juno-nominated bassist Jodi Proznik, and New-York based pianist George Colligan in the Yardbird Suite Jazz Orchestra, as well as with Calvin Love, and the award winning Melisizwe Brothers.
Fred has toured Europe, Africa and the Australian continent with the Cunard Queen Elizabeth’s Cruise Liner Orchestra. During this time, he performed with London based singer/pianist Joe Stilgoe, as well as Gordon Campbell (BBC Big Band), Dave Ashley (Glenn Miller Orchestra), and Jay Craig (Buddy Rich Big Band, BBC Big Band). He completed his music degree at MacEwan University in 2017, during which, he studied in Finland for one semester for an exchange program. Fred has recently taken over the position of Jazzworks Festival director as part of the Edmonton Jazz Festival Society.
Fred is involved in a unique saxophone and DJ duo project with the Edmonton based DJ Trick titled DJ Trick & Mack Sax. The fusion of saxophone and DJ has become popular in Europe and the duo is thrilled to offer this sound to audiences across Alberta. The duo performs at a variety of events including weddings, clubs, outdoor events, dances, lounges, and parties. They offer an enhanced, interactive experience uniquely curated for your event, playing a wide range of genres like Pop, RnB, Latin, EDM, House, Country, Rock, and Hip-Hop.
